Intervention Team Process
“Taking Responsibility For All Students”
The Riverdale School District is committed to providing a quality educational program for all students in the least restrictive environment. Therefore, it is necessary for staff to exhaust all suitable intervention options before referring a child for services outside of the regular education classroom. The District shall establish an Intervention Team for each student that is identified as experiencing significant academic, emotional, social, or behavioral challenges as well as those requiring further enrichment.
The District’s intervention team process is essentially a version of a 5-step problem solving process:
Step 1 in the process is to define the student problem, concern, or issue using measurable data. This step is documented using the “Intervention Team Referral Form.” Once the data is collected, Step 2 is for a team of staff members trained in problem solving techniques to determine why the problem is happening. Step 3 involves developing a specific plan related to the analyzed data to address the problem or concern. Parental involvement is an important part of this plan. Step 4 is to implement the plan as designed. Finally, a follow-up meeting is held to determine the effectiveness of the plan. The process continues until an effective and satisfactory plan is developed.
If you have any questions regarding the intervention team process, please contact Jen Tarrell, RtI Coordinator.
