Laude System
Starting with the graduating class of 2016, Riverdale High School the Laude system will be used as our recognition of graduates for bothe high academic standing and rigourous course selections. This new system will allow us to recognize and encourage students to take appropriate courses that will better prepare them for the future. The system is a point based system that combines Laude Points with a student's GPA, under our normal grading scale. This system rewards a student for taking designated honors courses. The student will earn 1 honors point (per semester) or .5 honors point (per semester) for taking designated honors courses. (Please note that a student must successfully complete the course to earn the honors points.) Class rank will be determined by the Laude calcuation when needed for external purposes, (scholarships requests).
Students taking Advanced Placement Courses will earn 1 honors point per semester for each AP course taken. For all other designated honors courses students will receive .5 honors points per semester.
It is Riverdale's hope that this system will be a truer system and will allow the recognition of a wider range of students. Under the Laude system students must meet two criteria.
- After seven completed semesters the student must have a Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher
- After seven completed semesters a student must have a minimum of 16 honor points, based on HS career.
If a student meets these requirements they will earn one of the following distinctions:
- Cum Laude (With honor and distinction) 16-31.99 - White stoles at graduation
- Magna Cum Laude (With GREAT honor and distinction) 32-49.99 - Silver stoles at graduation
- Summa Cum Laude (With HIGHEST honor and distinction) 50pts + - Gold stoles at graduation
