Walk for a Cure - May 22
In a few short weeks the streets of Muscoda will again be overflowing with maroon shirts as the entire Riverdale School District will be walking for a cure. The 8th annual School Walk for a Cure will take place on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 10:30 in the morning. This walk is service project that reinforces our character education traits of citizenship and caring. The Walk for a Cure raises money for those with various illnesses and disabilities.
The money collected this year will go to the WI Lion’s Camp in Rosholt, WI. This camp holds summer sessions for kids with visual impairments, deaf and hard of hearing, cognitive disabilities, and diabetes. It allows campers to meet and talk with other kids facing similar challenges.
We are asking that all students, staff, and community members wear any type of Riverdale shirt (preferably a maroon one). The public is encouraged to join us for the walk on May 22nd as well. Dig out your maroon Riverdale shirts and join in the fun. Be certain to honk to show your support when you see the sea of maroon walking down the street.

Used Book Sale
What: Donate your used books. We need books of interest to children in grades K through 4.
Due: Send all books by Monday 20, 2013. Books can be sent to classroom teachers.
Sale: Monday thru Wednesday, May 20, 21, and 22, 2013.
Cost: 25 cents per book. Please send some money with your child to buy books.
Why: The proceeds will benefit our annual Walk for a Cure event held on May 22nd.
This fundraiser is giving you a great opportunity to clean out your books and organize those bookshelves. We will be holding a used book sale Monday thru Wednesday, May 20th, 21st, and 22nd. This sale is an attempt to raise money for the Walk for a Cure event, encourage reading, and reinforce our character traits of citizenship and caring. Good citizens give something of themselves to help others in need. Caring individuals help out others even if it means sacrificing themselves. The youth will be donating their books as well as using their hard earned quarters to purchase used books to help raise money for those with various illnesses and disabilities. Students will also expand their reading skills by purchasing and reading someone else’s used and treasured book(s).
We deeply appreciate your help with this fundraiser. You may send the books any day from now until May 22. Please indicate with a note that these books are indeed to be donated to the book sale.
Snow Day Makeup
The winter weather has forced Riverdale to cancel school 5 days this school year and many late start days. The Riverdale School Board has approved, with recommendation from administration, not to have students make up any of the snow days.
However, there is a state requirement on total number of hours of instructions at each level. The high school and middle school meet the requirement, the elementary does not.
In order to comply with state instructional hours for elementary (Pre-K – 4th grade) students, we will begin instruction time at 8:00 AM instead of 8:10 AM, beginning Monday March 18th, 2013. Please make sure your child arrives at school early enough to have breakfast, get to their locker and report to class by 8:00 AM.
Thank you,
Bryce Bird
District Administrator
