My name is Sarah Gruen, and I have had the privilege of serving as the JH/HS principal for the past two years. I learned very quickly that Riverdale is an incredible school, and I feel so lucky to be a part of it. Our dedicated team of educators works tirelessly to provide a rich and engaging curriculum that challenges students academically, encourages critical thinking, and nurtures their social and emotional growth. We are committed to fostering an environment where every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to achieve their full potential.
Education has always been at the heart of who I am and the work I love to do. I received my bachelor’s degree in Elementary/Middle Level Education from UW-Eau Claire in 1999. I then went on to earn my master’s degree (reading license) and my Educational Leadership degree from Viterbo University in 2001 and 2009 respectively. Before becoming a principal I was a junior high classroom teacher for 24 years.
I’ve been married to my husband, Mark, for 27 years and together we have five kids. Our oldest son, Darren, is a UW-Whitewater college graduate working as a senior operations manager at Kroger Pace Dairy in Rochester. Emma earned her degree in Rehabilitation Science from UW–Eau Claire and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at UW–La Crosse. Bryce graduated from UW-La Crosse with his business finance degree and is an insurance broker. Marah is a junior at UW-Eau Claire, pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse practitioner. She’s also on the Blugold volleyball team. And our youngest daughter, Bria, will be a freshman at UW-La Crosse and majoring in Biology.
In my free time I love reading, being outdoors, and attending sporting events, but mostly I just love spending time and enjoying life with my family and friends!
As the principal of Riverdale Junior/Senior High School, I believe it is my responsibility to foster a safe, collaborative, and supportive environment for all to grow and succeed. I look forward to working together and making it another great school year!
